Finalised Proposal

Describe your group's Service Learning Activity in the following details.

a) Project Title / Name: 
Project Paying It Forward (CDAC Group 1)

b) Objectives
To cultivate the students based on the school values as well as motto: Sincerity and Perseverance. We develop them with these values
and motto through the various games planned as well as skills taught to them during the sessions we have with them at the CDAC.
We also wish to achieve in strengthening family bonds through outing planned by us. 


b.     Summary of activities
1. Ice Breakers (1st session)
Objective: To allow the students at CDAC bond together as a team, with the objective of instilling teamwork and core values with close
reference to the NCHS school values (e.g. Resilience our Sprit) as the main goal we work towards as a team.
Activities to be conducted: 
  • Introduction Game (Building of understanding among us as volunteers and students, at the same time bonding the students, forging 
    closer bonds.)
  • Blow Wind Blow (Building of understanding through learning each others' appearance and attire game between volunteers and students, at the same time bonding the students, forging 
    closer bonds.) 
  • Human Entanglement (To get to know each other better and by untangling their hands, it seemed that they are untangling their relationship with the other classmates, thus, getting fonder. Foster teamwork and cooperation between students. )
  • Monkey King (Trains fast thinking and reaction speed, communication skills and teamwork among the students.)  
  • Bang! (Achieving objective of letting all of us know each other, to allow us to have a better time knowing them during the 6 sessions at CDAC. This can be used in learning as we need to react fast to unexpected situations.) 
  • Duck, Duck, Goose (To foster stronger bonds between the students, cheering for each other while they are running.)''
    Instructions: 
     The cadets will be asked to sit in a circle. The “Goose” will go around the circle, as he pass one cadet he will point at the cadet say either “Duck” or “Goose”. “Duck… Duck… Goose!” The moment he say “Goose”, the person he points at will have to run a round and sit down in order to prevent his place from being captured by the “Goose” who will also be running 1 round to capture the “Duck’s” place. Failure to outrun the “Goose” will result to his/her place being captured by the “Goose” where he/she will become the next “Goose”. However if the “Duck” successfully outrun the “Goose” and sit down before the “Goose” does, the “Goose” will have to continue until he is able to secure a place from the “Duck”. The game ends when the time limit of 9 minutes is over.
  • I Went To the Supermarket (Trains the students’ memory, and also their creativity.)
Instructions: The class will sit in a circle. Class ICs will appoint a first person and he/she will say “I went to the supermarket and bought an apple (or any other object you can buy in a supermarket that begins with an A)”. The next person repeats the sentence including the “A” word and adds a “B” word. Each successive person recites the sentence with all the alphabet items, adding one of his/her own item. For example for the sixth person, “I went to the supermarket and bought an Apple, Banana, Carrot, Dog food, Envelopes, Frozen Fish”. After the 26th person, the next person shall restart with an “A” item.        
  
In this session, we can also conduct our first session of tuition if time permits after settling off all the administrative matters and through which we can help the students generally, understanding their needs.

2. Tuition + Games + Sports (2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th session)
Objective: To create an environment whereby we are able to help the students at CDAC academically as well as also promoting to them 
new skills such as dance and as well as sports to ensure holistic development of the children.
Activities to be conducted:
Tuition
To achieve the objective of helping the students at CDAC academically, we shall further divide ourselves into
smaller groups aiming to help the students at CDAC at the main 4 subjects of English, Mathematics, Science and Chinese. This will allow
our members to divided into specific areas of content mastery so as to greater benefit both the students at CDAC and us as volunteers.
Students will divide themselves into 4 groups, and will alternate around the groups to ensure that they are helped in all areas. NCzens 
will have to take note of each students' real needs before going to Session 6 where we will officially divide them into the different subjects
they are weaker in and thus enabling us to help them more in that subject, maximizing the outcome pertaining to helping the students
academically.

Skills/Games
The group has been divided to the respective the various 3 departments: Games, Training & Development and as well as Logistics cum Administrative Department. Games department oversees all the mass games that will be conducted. Training & Development will take care of the skills that will be taught to the students. Administrative cum Logistics Department will provide the group with Administrative updates as well as being responsible for all the logistics required for each session, help to hunt for them.  
Games: Amazing Race, Scavenger Hunt, Treasure Hunt
The Games can be made to fit to the values and skills that will be instilled to them, for example placing the game "Broken Telephone" will allow students to develop their communication skills, thus benefiting them.

Group Game 1:  
Aim of Game
Take poisonous flower and allow it to go through activation ring. Students hand are not allowed to have any contact with the container and the container must be held using items provided.
Students will be blindfolded and walk through water bottle.
Human entanglement, after solved, walked in a circle through numbers.

Objective: Inculcate teamwork, communications.


Group Game 2: Catch the Tail

Objective of game: Aids in the bonding between the children and us. This game also develops teamwork between the pairs and improves our speed and reaction to situations too.

Instructions
- All of us gets grouped into pairs (preferably one children and one from NCHS)
- One person takes the slash as the tail, while the other person is the protector.
- AIM of game: Get as many tails as possible


Group Game 3: Save the King!

Objective: To allow students to develop decision-making skills, tactics, planning skills, teamwork.

Instructions
Students would be divided into 2 groups. With one group being the beasts, whereas the other being soldiers. The objective to obtain victory in the game is for the soldiers to avoid the beasts and successfully save their king. Each cadets will be attached to a nametag and the cadets will be out of the game when the enemies, be it the soldiers or the beasts remove their name tags. The soldiers will have to finally remove twines tied to the “King” where they will win the game. The beasts will win if either the soldiers were wiped out or time limit of 30 minutes has reached. The loser side will do a forfeit.


Sports
Objective: To instill Teamwork, Sportsmanship [Citius, Altius, Fortius], Perseverance, Trust and Respect
(after 10 mins of warm-ups and 10 mins of briefing, games to be conduced for 45 mins each)

3. Shines in Harmony (Fund-raising event)
Items to be sold
  • Stickys Candy
  • Premium Popcorns (Consignment)
  • Soya Bean Milk + Grass Jelly
  • Balloon Sculpture
Outline: Through this find raising, we hope to do our part in CDAC appeal for us to plan a family bonding session to bond both the parents and the children, promoting family togetherness, one of CDAC's objective and we can do our part through raising of funds for the last session of family bonding, to give us a chance to plan a larger-scale event as leaders, and that this business is important to us, it therefore taught us not to be selfish and care for others as every cent we make, means more budget for the event and the effectiveness of family bonding relies solely on this fund raising. Chu Yi and Wei Xuan will be heading the event with the aid of members, assigning members to contact relevant suppliers for cheap-yet-quality products. On the event itself, we will be again dividing ourselves into groups to help in mending of different products to ensure efficiency of the selling of our products. Jia Hui will be leading in teaching us on how to do the balloon sculpture, one of the main products we will be selling. We might be able to receive help from volunteers in CDAC with balloon sculpting to ensure that we can make as many balloons as possible as demand may be high at the event with it being one of the unique-products that is sold.

4. Family Bonding (Last session)
Objective: To promote family togetherness throughout the series of games planned, bonding both the student and their parents together while learning more about Singapore's Water History, promoting National Education.
Activities:
  • Learning Journey to introduce the students to the different water history of Singapore, the 4 National Taps strategy  
  • Amazing Race at Marina Barrage (Based on the knowledge inculcate in them, reinforce the students knowledge of the knowledge taught to them)
  • Giving of stationaries with some money raised to the students (represent act of giving back to society).
